Biography
Nichola Renton is an award-winning actor and a leading improvisation specialist, known for developing original formats and crafting dynamic, story-driven work, including her long-running sell-out Improv Shows at FringeWorld (2016–2026).
Her practice is grounded in narrative, ensemble connection and emotionally responsive play. Nichola has performed and taught extensively, including creating and directing Acacia Prison’s Improv Comedy Club, where improvisation became a tool for connection, confidence and transformation. She is also a former Director of Perth Playback Theatre, deepening her expertise in honouring story and audience-driven performance.
She received City of Melville grant and produced and directed the inaugural Perth Winter ImprovFest (2025), engaging over 600 participants, and continues to develop new work, including the sellout Wicked Women and Love and other Catastrophes for FringeWorld 2026.
Nichola works as a specialist drama educator across schools, communities, universities and corporate settings. She teaches regular classes for adults, teens and young people, in Improv, Stage Combat, Shakespeare and Stage Craft and is known for creating inclusive, high-quality and deeply engaging work.
A highly experienced facilitator, Nichola’s teaching focuses on bold creative choices, strong ensemble awareness and emotionally grounded storytelling. She creates high-trust environments where performers can take risks, expand their range and develop genuine confidence, presence and connection.
