Biography

Felipe Ortiz is a founding memeber of La Gata Circo and Picnic Impro in Bogotá, Colombia. Besides studying Clown and Buffon in Paris, he has also started working in improvisation and acrobatics early on. In his artistic work, he combines elements from these influences: Movement, Physicality, Storytelling and Clowning make for his unique style. Aside from his countless international improvisation and clowning workshops he also taught as a professor for circus techniques and theater improvisation at the University of Bogotá. After his internationally successful project "Speechless", an impro show without words with colleagues Daniel Orrantia and DJ Mama Cutsworth, he is now focussing his research on the genre of Magical Realism and also works on his first ever solo show, in which he combines his wide artistic scope from acrobatics to impro in a mesmerizing one man show.

Soundpainting – Masterclass
A sign language to create improvised shows.

Soundpainting is the universal multidisciplinary live composing sign language for musicians, actors, dancers, circus and visual Artists. This workshop is a journey to this wonderful universe of live composition. We will learn the basic signs and how they interact with the different performing arts. The workshop will have a showcase at the end.


Movemet -The pleasure of exploring the body in motion.

Discover the potential of expression, composition and creation that is hidden in your body as it moves… ¤ Through different movement techniques and elements form dance, martial arts, somatics, pilates, soft acrobatics. we´ll explore and analyze endless possibilities of making connections with your own b o d y , o u r main tool as performers.


Storytelling through Magical Realism – Masterclass -
Exploring literature in impro

This workshop is a journey through the complex world of magical realism exploring different tools that can help you dive into this amazing and powerful universe. From it´s origins till the present. We will explore the basic characteristics, the elements that are part of this world like: time, space, characters, politics and the wonderful nostalgic atmosphere. what is magical realism in our cultures? How can I improvise In this genre ? What are the most important examples of magical realism in different art expressions? The answers of this questions are some of the things we want to discover.


Body – Telling

As improvisers our main tool is our body. Are we aware of all the things our body says with a little movement, with a little tension, with a breath? Are we aware of how music changes our emotional state? Through this workshop you can develop different ways of connecting with your partners, with sound and music — and most importantly — with the audience. Develop your deep listening, explore the space in relationship with your body.


FROM IMAGINATION TO POETRY

Explore the endless possibilities of physical impro. Through spontaneity games, impro exercises, and specific movement techniques, you will find how to discover and create imaginary objects and spaces and how to connect your imagination with your body taking advantage of the endless possibilities your body can give. In this workshop, the participants will be trained to allow their body to surprise them, taking them to unexpected places and circumstances, how to interact with imaginary spaces and objects, (they can be your best friend but also your worst enemy), this will be an important tool to avoid actor’s blockages and a limitless source of creativity and inspiration.
